about

Alim Kamara is proud to announce the release of his single “Letter to Sierra Leone” on (release date). Featuring the dulcet tones of activist Mallence Bart Williams in the intro, Afrobeats sensation Silvastone’s soulful melodies with Alim’s poetic thought-provoking lyrics; “Letter to Sierra Leone” is a reflection on the economic and social issues Sierra Leone faces. A song of solidarity to the citizens of Sierra Leone. A reminder to those in the Diaspora, that their help is fundamental in the development of Sierra Leone and changing the narrative of Africa “I’m staring in the mirror you should too/You see only we can save us now/Start teaching our history/Tell our stories so we feel proud/I keep you in my prayers when I bow/Leh we mek Sierra Leone a free town”.

“Letter to Sierra Leone” was originally included in his album tracklist, but feeling compelled to continue his legacy of activism and youth work in Sierra Leone, Alim joined forces with Mallence Bart Williams German-Sierra Leonean maverick creative philanthropist whose legendary TEDx talk referring to Sierra Leone as the richest country in the world to release this as a single in direct response to the effects of the mudslide in Freetown. Proceeds from “Letter to Sierra Leone” will go towards an education campaign led by Mallence Bart Williams via the gofundme crowdfunding website.

Letter To Sierra Leone (English translation) lyrics.

Mallence Bart-Williams - Poem

Royalty, I’m from the richest nation in the world /
Diamond and gold, are my decore, but deeper golden is my soul /

Alim - Verse 1

How can you be surprised / when you raise up leopards /
and they eat your goats / real talk aren't we tired hope /
They even put bio-weapons in Kenema Bo /
Oh we’re suppose to be the poorest nation /
but the asain presence is just growing /
if we don’t start seeing what we have /
and stop selling land to pirañas for half /
They said, Alim why didn’t you make an ebola song /
like it’s suppose to bring back my people who are gone /
I’m really trying now just to inspire the young /
remind them they’re so amazing like Ramrong /
Yeah SL’s original name / When Frobay was Mecca /
and we had that infrastructure / We did / one day believe /
the poor will have nothing to eat, but the rich /

Silvastone - Chorus

If you’re teacher / you should teach well /
and If you’re a leader / I beg you lead well /
Cos the future is in our hands / we are the solution /
one finger can’t pick a stone /

Alim Kamara - Verse 2

If you tie a cow over there / then it only eats over there /
if nothing uplifts you / take stairs / Land that we love / I am right here /
trying to stop the bleed / dammit so much international funding /
still our nurses and doctors are striking / because their minimum
wages keeps disappearing / and now our girls cant study /
because they slipped up and had babies / Isn’t how the captives do /
(Exactly) a nation without educated women really? They say ah this one speaks truth / I just want to know what are you gonna do? / I'm staring in the mirror you should too / you see only we can save now / start teaching our history that's how / tell our story that's how / I keep you in my prayers when I bow / let's make Sierra Leone a Freetown now /

Silvastone - Chorus

If you’re teacher / you should teach well /
and If you’re a leader / I beg you lead well /
Cos the future is in our hands / we are the solution /
one finger can’t pick a stone /
